Setting Backset Mounts
Backset settings are a simple and easy way to set faceted stones. Some styles are also suitable for setting with cabochons. They are available as earring mounts & pendants in a variety of styles. Backset settings have claws behind the stone, which can be bent into place to hold the stone securely, meaning that you don’t need traditional stone setting techniques to set faceted stones.
How to Create
1. Select your backset mount and correct sized stone to set in it (the example shown below is a SP127 8x6mm oval slide pendant set with an W27 8x6mm oval Iolite faceted stone).
2. Put the faceted stone into the mount, as shown below.
3. Push down the metal claws with a pair of pliers or similar, so that the stone is held securely in place.
4. In the example shown we have slipped the pendant onto a SN33 extra fine Sterling Silver snake chain.
